The city of Munster Germany is situated directly East of Bremen and directly South of Hamburg. Munster Germany is one of the oldest cities in Germany. It was founded in the year 793 and became the home of the Episcopal diocese until the early 1800s. Today, Munster has a population of nearly 275,000.  

  

Unlike many other industrial cities in Germany, Munster has a service-based economy. It is situated in the Westphalian Bight and its historic roots are still visible today in the farmlands and small communities surrounding the city. There aren’t many high rise buildings in Munster. Most of the area is comprised of single family homes and estates.  

  

Munster Germany residents carry umbrellas through the local streets, guarding against the gentle, steady rains that often fall in the city. An apron of park like communities extends around the city center.  

  

Munster Germany is home to Westphalian Wilhelms University, once called the University of Munster is considered one of the best schools in Europe with a focus on research, sciences, law and business.  

During the Second World War, Munster Germany was home to a large German military operation. This significant presence attracted allied troop attention which resulted in near total destruction of the old city. More than half of the new city was destroyed by allied troops as well. A number of Nazi military facilities still stand in Munster Germany today as mute witness to a difficult time in German history. 

  

Munster Germany is a fascinating and memorable city to visit. Its 13th century churches and cathedrals rise above the city, casting shadows on the historic landscape. Tourists and residents stroll past the Town Hall and St. Lambert’s church, through streets lined with the umbrellas of sidewalk cafes. Today, Munster is a complex mix of modern science and historic heritage.
